Actor Jiro Who Played "Magnifico" Now Just Roams NAIA for Food and Shelter

Do you remember the award-winning film “Magnifico”?

How about the actor who played as the protagonist of the film who bears the name of the film?

Jiro Manio, the youngest multi-awarded actor of his generation, played Magnifico in 2003.

The film is about a young boy with a good heart and his family who were faced with several adversities to the point of losing hope and giving up. His older brother lost his scholarship and his sister suffers from cerebral palsy. Their family is not well-off and they live in a humble home in the province. His grandmother was found to have stomach cancer. Upon learning how expensive it is to die, Magnifico embarks on a mission of saving money for his grandmother. While doing this, he affects the lives of the people around him, making things a bit better to bear for them. Unfortunately, he experienced an ironic fate towards the end of the film.

Fast-forward to today, apparently, Manio was found roaming around the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA). People in the airport are reportedly helping him by giving him food and clothes.

According to a post from Inquirer.net, Manio has been roaming around the airport’s lobby for four days now. He stays mostly at the terminal’s restaurant area, searching for leftover food.

Frank Sorca, a security guard at the said airport, recognized Manio and said that it seemed like the actor “hasn’t had any decent meal and his clothes were dirty.” He gave Manio clothes, food, and bath accessories. Manio only took the food and used the clothes but refused to clean himself.

When asked why he was there, Sorca said that Manio has been giving different answers every time. One time, he said that he left home because he had enemies there. When asked another time, he gives a different answer.

Employees of the airport have been contributing to help out Manio, giving him food and other basic stuff.

Apparently, Manio does not realize why he was getting attention. When told that he was an actor, he insisted that he wasn’t and claimed that he just looks like the actor.

In 2011, Manio entered rehabilitation for one year due to drug abuse.

According to a news report on TV Patrol, Manio’s father admitted that they had fight that’s why he left the house. Manio’s siblings are asking for help as well because they are no longer capable of supporting the actor’s mental health treatment. Below is a screenshot of their call for help.

School Bans Trendy Hairstyles For Male Students

These days, it’s all about the top knot, the man-bun, and the pompadour for men’s hairstyles. But if you’re studying in San Pedro College, you may not be allowed to do that.

In a series of photos released by the college’s Office of Student Affairs on Facebook, they illustrated the top knot, the man-bun, the pompadour, the short-back, and the undercut as the hairstyles not allowed for male students.

The post did not explain why these are not allowed, but encouraged students to visit the office of Student Affairs if they had any questions.

Pat patiently accompany her in going home from Makati to their house in Taguig before going home in Alabang. Pat did this everyday at the end of their shifts early in the morning(4 am). Althea said that she was amazed by the effort of this man until April 28, 2015, Pat texted her "Sana akin ka nalang". Althea said she replied "Oo". That is where their relationship started.

Filipino Dance “Tinikling” Featured on US Sitcom

“Tinikling” is known as one of the most popular traditional Filipino dances. It involves the use of two bamboo poles placed parallel each other on the ground and then tapped against each other while the performers step in and out in a rhythmic pattern. The name tinikling is in reference to the birds locally known as tikling. The dance is an imitation of the movement of the tikling bird dodging bamboo traps set by rice farmers. The dancers mimic the bird’s speed and grace by skillfully maneuvering between the bamboo poles.
Tinikling was recently featured on the US Sitcom “The Middle”. They even posted this tweet in relation to the episode.

One of the show’s characters, Sue Heck, was required to perform tinikling in order to pass gym class to graduate and go to college. Sue does the test and dances tinikling with Taylor Swift’s Shake It Off in the background.

The Middle is a US sitcom that airs on ABC. It revolves around the life of Frankie, and her husband, Mike, along with their three children, Axl, Sue, and Brick. It is currently on its sixth season.

Smart offers free Internet to prepaid subscribers

(3rd UPDATE) All active mobile prepaid subscribers have to do is maintain a P1 load to start using 30MB of data starting Friday, September 26

MANILA, Philippines (3rd UPDATE) – Smart announced Friday, September 26, that it would be offering a limited-time promotion for all its prepaid subscribers. After saying on Twitter that he had a big announcement to make, Manuel "Manny" V. Pangilinan, chairman of Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) declared on Friday, September 26, that prepaid subscribers of Smart, Talk N' Text, and Sun Cellular can now avail of mobile Internet services offered by the 3 networks – for free. "That's better than politics," Pangilinan quipped, referring to speculations that his announcement would be on his reported decision to run in the 2016 elections. Pangilinan said this is an initiative to make mobile Internet available for all, adding that his company's wireless group has been spending P150 billion ($3.35 billion*) in capital expenditure to improve and democratize mobile Internet services in the country. “We are launching this initiative to provide a much larger number of Filipinos the opportunity to try out and experience the Internet, enjoy its benefits and, as we at Smart like to say, ‘live more,’” Pangilinan said. Napoleon Nazareno, PLDT president and chief executive officer, said: “Only one-third is using the Internet. That is the objective, to get them into the Internet. This is the opportunity we are looking at, trying to democratize data.” To date, Smart, Talk N'Text, and Sun Cellular have a combined total subscribers of 66 million. Nazareno estimates that about 20 million of these subscribers have smartphones, and 14 to 15 million of them are already using mobile Internet. The free yet finite data usage starts today, September 26, and will run until November 30. Subscribers can use data up to 30MB a day. They need to have a minimum of P1 ($0.22) to avail of the offer. Nazareno said there might be forgone revenues in the process, but they are banking on the decreasing cost of data-capable phones to attract more people to use the services available on mobile Internet. Pre-paid subscribers of the 3 mobile networks can now search Google, Wikipedia; use Google Maps and Waze for navigation; shop on Amazon, eBay, Lazada, Zalora; browse Instagram; and reserve taxi via Grab Taxi or Easy Taxi. They can also listen to songs via Smart’s Spinnr music; book their trips via Expedia and Skyscanner; send, and receive emails, either through data-capable feature phones or smartphones running on Google Android, Apple iOS, and Microsoft Windows Phone OS. Smart also said users have a daily 30MB stipend for the free Internet they will be getting. This excludes VOIP and messaging apps like Viber and Whatsapp, as well as video streaming websites. Peer-to-peer file sharing is likewise not a part of this free Internet offer. The speed of the connection is going to be limited by the device or handset being used by the subscriber. Location, time of use, and the type of connectivity they can get – 2G, 3G, or 4G – will also be limiting factors. The minimum speed, however, is set to 12 kilobits per second (kbps). Active Smart prepaid subscribers can take advantage of the promotion by texting FREE to 9999. To get free Internet daily, they must text the number daily to continue free access.
